Now, instead of the Hall of Fame, baseball’s seven-time Cy Young winner could go to prison after being indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday for allegedly lying to Congress.

The case writes a new chapter in one of baseball’s worst scandals, the rampant use of performance-enhancing drugs in the 1990s and early 2000s, and leaves Clemens’ legacy in jeopardy.

The six-count indictment alleges that Clemens obstructed a congressional inquiry with 15 different statements made under oath, including denials that he had ever used steroids or human growth hormone.

I’ll never forget what happened between Roger Clemens and Mike Piazza during the 2000 season, I’ll never forget how Yankee fans went out of their way to justify the beaning, the dirty player Clemens was, the headhunter, even though they were just a few short years removed from Clemens beaning of Derek Jeter when he was pitching for Toronto on July 17th, 1998.

Now news comes out that Clemens could be facing jail time for lying before Congress and the only question is when Clemens goes to jail, will he be changing positions. Instead of being the pitcher he’s always been, maybe he’ll wind up being a catcher.

One can only hope.
